After providing an online survey on the subject this month, the DC State Board of Education (SBOE) will hold hour-long public meetings throughout June in each ward on the new federal law that replaces No Child Left Behind. That law, the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA), gives more latitude to school systems to determine accountability beyond required annual standardized testing.
The schedule for the SBOE’s meeting is below, available here:
Ward 4: June 2, 5:30 pm, Petworth Library
Ward 1: June 4, 1 pm, Columbia Heights Education Campus (tentative)
Ward 7: June 4, 4 pm, Capitol View Library
Ward 5: June 6, 6 pm, Turkey Thicket Rec Center
Ward 3: June 8, 7 pm, Tenley-Friendship Library
Ward 2: June 13, 6 pm, MLK Library
Ward 8, June 16, 6:30 pm, Anacostia Library
Ward 6, June 21, 6:30 pm, UPDATE: Capitol Hill Montessori at Logan
In addition, the regular monthly meeting of the SBOE will be held this coming Wednesday June 1, 4:30 p.m. at 441 4th Street, NW, Room 1114, where these public meetings for ESSA will also be discussed.
