Show Up, Shout Out: This Week’s Events Around DCPS’s Re-Opening

Ward 6 Public School Parents Organization (W6PSPO) head Suzanne Wells helpfully compiled the following list of activities this week to show up and shout out concerning DCPS’s re-opening plan:

–The Parent Advocacy Action Team is holding a rally at 10 am, Thursday, October 22 at the Wilson Building (our city hall! 1350 PA Ave. NW) on how reopening affects DC children w/ disabilities.

–Created by W6PSPO parents, this open letter outlines what school communities want DCPS and the Department of General Services to address in re-opening. Add your comments and concerns, and all will be delivered to the DC Council.

–The DC Council will be holding a public hearing this Friday October 23 (3 pm) on the DCPS re-opening–but unless you’re an invited government witness, you won’t be a part of it. That said, you CAN submit written testimony by COB on Friday November 6 to astrange@dccouncil.us. In addition, you can send questions for invited witnesses directly to Phil Mendelson, council chair (at pmendelson@dccouncil.us), and to David Grosso, education committee co-chair (dgrosso@dccouncil.us).

–The Washington Teachers’ Union (WTU) will be holding its own public hearing that same day (Friday October 23) starting at 2:30 pm, outside the DC Council hearing, at the Wilson Building (1350 PA Ave. NW). Sign up to speak here

–Submit testimony for the state board of education hearing tomorrow, Wednesday, October 21 (starting at 4:30 pm). For more information, see here and see here.

–And, finally, be sure to sign the WTU petition to demand a safe re-opening.
