Education Election Information

Hello, DC! Do you know who you are voting for WRT education?

At last count, there were more more than 20 candidates for two at large seats on the DC council (!) and 6 candidates for one at large seat on the state board of education–and that’s not counting lots more candidates for seats in both bodies representing individual wards. (See the DC board of elections website for more information and sample ballots for each ward.)

Thankfully, there are plenty of ways to get information about all those candidates (and more!) and their stances on education issues:

–Listen to upcoming debates:

October 13 , 6 pm, forum for state board of ed. candidates in wards 2 & 7 (sponsored by the Gertrude Stein Democratic Club)

October 14, 6 pm, forum for state board of ed. candidates (sponsored by PAVE)

October 15, 6 pm, forum for state board of ed. candidates in ward 8 and at large (sponsored by the Gertrude Stein Democratic Club)

October 22, 6:30 pm, forum for state board of ed. candidates in wards 2 & 7 (sponsored by DECC)

–Watch video of recent debates of at large council and at large state board candidates (sponsored by the DC office of campaign finance)

–Read answers to C4DC’s state board of ed. at large candidates’ questionnaire (C4DC is a city-wide coalition of ed councils and advocates supporting DCPS)

–Read answers to C4DC’s at large council candidates’ questionnaire

–Read answers to Washington Teachers’ Union (WTU) questionnaire for all candidates

–See a fun graphic representation of the at large SBOE candidates’ answers to the WTU questionnaire above
