Below are two recent DCPS items that do not involve muckracking!
1. DCPS is soliciting feedback (see here) on its two proposed school calendars for next school year. New items include longer Thanksgiving and winter breaks; professional development at term ends, along with teacher conferences; more 5-day weeks (resulting in several 2-day weeks); and no half days. In addition, parents and students can give feedback on several spring break options.
2. DCPS is holding resource fairs for students and families at all DCPS comprehensive high schools, with information on summer jobs, housing, childcare, transportation, and other city services. The fairs start tomorrow and run through the month of March:
Wilson High School: March 2, from 3:30 – 5:30 pm
Dunbar High School: March 7, from 3:30 – 5:30 pm
H.D. Woodson High School: March 9, from 3:30 – 5:30 pm
Coolidge High School: March 14, from 3:30 – 5:30 pm
Anacostia High School: March 16, from 3:30 – 5:30 pm
Eastern High School: March 21, from 3:30 – 5:30 pm
Cardozo Education Campus: March 23, from 3:30 – 5:30 pm
Confidential to DCPS high school students and families:
Updated information on attendance and grading policies is here. DCPS has apparently extended the grade-reduction and failures-due-to-absences appeals deadline to Friday, March 9. (The updated grade appeal form is at the bottom of the link above.)
DCPS is also in the process of reviewing all senior transcripts, with a mid-year update on students on track to graduate in 2018, which will eventually be provided here.
